TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom to Introduce Standby Line

Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is set to make a significant change to one of its most popular attractions. Starting September 9, 2024, TRON Lightcycle Run will offer a standby line for guests, marking a departure from its previous virtual queue system.

A New Era for TRON Lightcycle Run

Since its debut, TRON Lightcycle Run has been a fan-favorite at Magic Kingdom. Inspired by the iconic TRON film series, this high-speed attraction allows guests to board lightcycles and race through a thrilling digital landscape.

Until now, accessing this ride required either joining a virtual queue or purchasing a Lightning Lane Single Pass, both of which demanded advance planning and quick action on the My Disney Experience app.

The Virtual Queue System

The virtual queue system, initially introduced for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was implemented at TRON Lightcycle Run to manage high demand and ensure smoother guest flow.

This system required guests to join at specific times throughout the day, with spots often filling up within seconds.

While effective in controlling crowd levels and reducing wait times, it sometimes left guests disappointed if they couldn’t secure a boarding group.

The Shift to Standby

The introduction of a standby line for TRON Lightcycle Run represents the first time a standard queue will be available for this attraction during regular park hours.

This change offers guests more flexibility in experiencing the ride without the need for advance planning or the pressure of securing a virtual queue spot.

Options for Guests

While the standby line will be available, Disney will continue to offer a Lightning Lane Single Pass for TRON Lightcycle Run as an alternative.

This provides guests with multiple options to experience the attraction based on their preferences and park strategies.

Virtual Queues Remain for Other Attractions

It’s worth noting that virtual queues will still be in place for other popular attractions at Walt Disney World. Specifically, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will continue to utilize the virtual queue system.

This change to TRON Lightcycle Run’s queue system reflects Disney’s ongoing efforts to improve guest experiences and provide more accessible options for enjoying their most popular attractions. As the September 9 implementation date approaches, guests planning visits to Magic Kingdom can look forward to a new way of experiencing this thrilling digital adventure.
