The Benefits of Staying on Disney Property

When planning your visit to Walt Disney World, one of the decisions you’ll need to make is whether to stay on Disney property or off-site. While off-site accommodations may seem tempting, staying on Disney property comes with a host of perks and advantages that improve your overall Disney experience. We didn’t start staying on Disney property until a couple years ago and we’ve never looked back since.

Perk #1: Access to Extra Magic Hours

One of the best benefits of staying on Disney property is access to Extra Magic Hours. With Extra Magic Hours, you get one-hour early entry to the parks. So, if Animal Kingdom opens at 8:00 am, that means you can enter at 7:00 am. You’ll need to scan your MagicBand+ once you get inside to confirm that you are a resort guest. Also, the official guaranteed entry time is one hour earlier, but sometimes depending on how busy it is, they’ll let you in even earlier.

One hour might not seem like a lot of time, but while guests are still on their way to the park, you’ll have ridden at least two main attractions such as Flight of Passage if you’re in Animal Kingdom as well as Na’vi River Journey. PLUS, you’ll be headed out of the busy area of the park and into a less crowded area of the park such as Asia in Animal Kingdom. So this way, you’re going against the current of the crowd.

Early park entry really does set your day up right from the beginning. However, this perk will only apply to Disney-goers who want to be there right when the park opens. If you want more of a rolling start to your morning, this perk might not apply to you and your party.

Perk #2: Free Transportation

Another major perk of staying on Disney property is the convenience of free transportation to and from the theme parks and other resorts. Disney offers various transportation options, including buses, monorails, boats, and Skyliner rides to ensure that you can easily navigate between your resort and the parks. This takes away the stress of driving and parking, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the magic of the Disney experience.

Perk #3:The Disney Bubble

One of the most appealing aspects of staying on Disney property is the concept of the “Disney bubble.” Don’t know what we’re talking about? Neither did we before we stayed on Disney property. I saw so many blogs talk about this “Disney bubble” and here I am thinking “Okay, this is some weird cult thing” – but I totally get it now.

Being part of the Disney bubble means forgetting about all your worries and truly focusing on “Hakuna Matata.” You know how Timon and Pumbaa lived their lives in The Lion King? That’s exactly what the Disney bubble is all about.

For the entire length of your stay, the Disney bubble freezes you at a point in time where nothing else matters. The stress of work, worrying about how you’ll put food on the table, and all the intricacies of life back home are gone. You’re completely immersed in Walt’s vision of pure joy, bliss, and happiness.

The best part of the Disney bubble is once you’re out of it, you’re immediately thinking about how much sooner you can get back into it. I know it sounds culty when I put it that way, but I promise you’ll come back to this blog post and know exactly what I’m talking about once you stay on Disney property for your vacation.

Benefits of Staying on Disney PropertyOff-Site Accommodations
Access to Extra Magic HoursNo access to Extra Magic Hours
Free transportation to and from the parksNeed to arrange and pay for transportation
Immersed in the Disney bubbleLess immersive experience
Convenience and ease of navigating the parksPotential transportation hassles and parking fees

Rundown of Disney Vacation Club Properties

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) is basically Disney’s timeshare program which offers accommodations and is owned and operated by Disney. These properties, categorized as “Deluxe Villas,” provide guests with luxurious amenities, such as kitchens or kitchenettes, in-unit washers and dryers, and access to the full set of benefits associated with Disney hotels. While DVC properties offer a distinct set of considerations, they provide an exclusive and upscale experience for guests looking for a more upscale stay at Walt Disney World.

Exploring Other Select Hotels

In addition to the Disney-operated hotels, other select hotels that have partnered with Disney but aren’t considered official Disney property. These hotels, including the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin, Four Seasons Resort Orlando, and Disney Springs Hotels, provide guests with alternative options for accommodations that still provide convenient access to the theme parks and some of the benefits associated with staying on Disney property.

Discovering Good Neighbor Hotels

Good Neighbor Hotels are hotels near Disney World that have received the Disney stamp of approval. Although these hotels are not operated by Disney, they provide an excellent alternative for guests seeking budget-friendly accommodations with Disney-related perks.

While staying at a Good Neighbor Hotel, you can still enjoy the magic of Disney without breaking the bank. These hotels offer competitive rates and often provide special discounts on Walt Disney World tickets, allowing you to save money while still experiencing all the wonders Disney has to offer.

Exploring Airbnb Near Disney World

For guests looking for alternative accommodations, Airbnb offers a wide range of options near Disney World. These Airbnb rentals often provide more space, including full kitchens, and can be a more cost-effective choice for larger families or those planning longer stays. Many Airbnb rentals in the Orlando area offer amenities comparable to or even surpassing those of traditional hotels, providing a comfortable and convenient stay for guests.

Amenities and Cost Comparison of Airbnb Rentals vs. Disney Resorts

Accommodation TypeAmenitiesAverage Cost per Night

  • Multiple bedrooms
  • Private pools or hot tubs (in select rentals)
  • Flexible check-in and check-out times
