10 Red Flags That Indicate Your Travel Partner May Not Enjoy Disney World

The worst thing about traveling to Disney World is having someone in your party who doesn’t understand the magic.

But, not everyone gets it. So, we’ve outlined the things you need to lookout for before you decide to take your next travel partner to Disney World!

10 Signs to Lookout for in Your Disney World Travel Partner

Here are 10 red flags to look out for in guest travelers who may not be the biggest Disney enthusiasts.

1. They constantly compare Disney to other theme parks.

If a member in your party can’t stop talking about how much better Universal Studios or Six Flags is, it’s a clear sign they’re not fully immersing themselves in the Disney experience. While the other parks can also be incredibly fun, Disney magic is all about living in the moment – not about thinking what else is out there.

2. They complain about the prices.

While it’s true that a Disney vacation can be expensive, constantly griping about the cost of everything from park tickets to Mickey Mouse ears is a red flag that a traveler isn’t in the right mindset to enjoy the magic. That’s why sticking to a strict budget is our best tip to have the perfect Disney vacation.

3. They refuse to wear Disney-themed clothing or accessories.

Part of the fun of a Disney trip is getting into the spirit by donning a pair of mouse ears or a Disney character t-shirt. If a member of your party flat-out refuses to participate, it may be a sign they’re not fully on board. Who wouldn’t want to wear a t-shirt of their favorite Disney character?

4. They roll their eyes at character meet-and-greets.

Meeting iconic Disney characters is a highlight for many guests, especially us! If a guest scoffs at the idea or seems annoyed by the lines, it’s a red flag they may not appreciate the special memories these interactions can create.

5. They constantly check their phone or watch during shows and rides.

Disney puts an incredible amount of detail and effort into their attractions and entertainment. If a guest can’t put down their device long enough to be present and enjoy the experience, it’s a sign they may not be fully engaged.

And no, we’re not talking about screen time for Genie+. We’re talking screen time for Instagram or TikTok scrolls. There’s more to Disney than just the thrill of the rides.

6. They make snide comments about the “childishness” of it all.

Yes, Disney is geared towards families and children, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t find joy in the experience too. Disney adults have always been part of the original plan. If a guest constantly makes snarky remarks about how everything is “for kids,” it’s a red flag they may be too cynical.

7. They break the rules and cause disruptive behavior.

This one is just rude. Disney has strict rules in place to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all guests. If someone is blatantly disregarding these guidelines or causing a scene, it’s a major red flag that they don’t respect not just the Disney experience, but the safety of others.

8. They refuse to try any of the iconic Disney foods or drinks.

From Mickey Mouse ice cream bars to Dole Whips, Disney has no shortage of treats. If a guest turns their nose up at all the special food and beverage offerings, it may be a sign they’re not willing to fully immerse themselves in the Disney experience.

And we’re not talking about anyone who has allergies or needs accommodations. We’re talking about the people who are “too cool for Dole Whip.” Oh well, more for us!

9. They constantly complain about the crowds and lines.

Yes, Disney can get crowded, especially during peak seasons. But complaining nonstop about the masses of people and the wait times for rides is a red flag that a guest may not have the patience or positive attitude needed to make the most of a Disney trip.

We get it. Dealing with crowds can be stressful. But that’s why we’ve created a Disney World crowd calendar – so that you can choose the optimal time to go!

10. They say things like “I’m only here because my family/friends wanted to come.”

If they’re vocal about the fact that they’re only at Disney begrudgingly, it’s a giant red flag that they’re not going to be the most enthusiastic or pleasant park companion.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, a Disney vacation is what you make of it. If a guest goes in with a negative attitude and a refusal to enjoy the magic, they’re probably not going to have the best time.

But for those who are willing to let go, have fun, and believe in the wonder of it all, a trip to Disney World can be the trip of a lifetime. That’s all that really matters.
